Both the M8 and the 12Cilindri have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and blind spot warning systems.

The M8 comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The 12Cilindri’s 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

The M8’s corrosion warranty is 9 years longer than the 12Cilindri’s (12 vs. 3 years).

There are almost 8 times as many BMW dealers as there are Ferrari dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the M8’s warranty.

The 12Cilindri’s redline is at 9500 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The M8 has a 7200 RPM redline.

The M8’s 4.4 turbo V8 produces 53 lbs.-ft. more torque (553 vs. 500) than the 12Cilindri’s 6.5 DOHC V12.

The M8 Gran Coupe has standard seating for 5 passengers; the 12Cilindri can only carry 2. The M8 Coupe has standard seating for 4.

The M8 Coupe has a much larger trunk than the 12Cilindri Coupe (14.8 vs. 9.5 cubic feet).

The M8 Convertible has a much larger trunk with its top down than the 12Cilindri Spider (12.4 vs. 7.1 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the M8’s trunk can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The 12Cilindri doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The M8 has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The 12Cilindri doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The M8 has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, warning and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The 12Cilindri doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The M8’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The 12Cilindri’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

The M8’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The 12Cilindri’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

Laser headlights, standard on the M8, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the 12Cilindri’s LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

The M8’s standard sun-visors swivel front-to-side to block glare from the side windows. Visors that swivel front-to-side cost extra on the 12Cilindri.

A power rear sunshade and manual rear side window sunshades are standard in the M8 Gran Coupe to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The 12Cilindri doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

The M8’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The 12Cilindri’s power mirror controls are on the dash where they are possibly hidden by the steering wheel and are awkward to manipulate.

The M8’s optional Parking Assistant Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The 12Cilindri doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The BMW M8 comes in coupe, convertible and sedan bodystyles; the Ferrari 12Cilindri isn’t available as a sedan.
